Artist Research - Digital Painter - Igor Kieryluk

Artist Research - Digital Painter -  Igor Kieryluk

Igor Kieryluk is a polish fantasy digital painter creating fantasy art for clients such as Wizards of the Coast, DC Comics and Fantasy Flight Games. as much as i tried to research on Igor's background he keeps any basic information on himself hidden. The only information that i could find was indeed that he lives in Poland and creates digital paintings for game companies. However all other information such as a background of any information on methods and techniques are not discussed on any of his websites or blogs even to the point that on his ''about'' section on his personal website only says '' I'm available for work''. This is a sharp change to what I've seen to most artists that I'm inspired by or take interest in. Even artists who suffer from depression such as IronStylus at least blog about themselves and discuss what they are doing, however Igor seems to be very closed of from his fans and audience.

After looking for any sort of artist direction or work discussion i decided to just browse through all of his past works. it seems that his most popular piece is ' Elish Norn Grand Cenobite' which is a piece of promotional and card artwork for Wizards of the Coast. I've noticed that most of the artwork that I'm interested in, before knowing any of their clients, have worked for wizards of the Coast. This further encourages me to work towards this level and standard of artwork as I'd be interested in doing some work for wizards. Furthermore this seems to be his most favored piece as it is constantly sold out on his print store and he is always stating he'd ordering more.
Personally i really enjoy the jump from ivory white to red in this piece. for two colours being so different, Igor seems to be able to make the them just mesh together and work, the red seems to just flow into the shades of ivory and looks almost natural in a way. this is a contradiction to what we know when we look at this image because we recognise that the red is so prominent and over powers the white. Yet i feel that through the use of textures and shading Igor has made these two colours compliment each other and created a visual spectacle of clashing colours harmonising to create this grotesque creature that has its own odd beauty.

Although the general majority of the audience prefer the earlier painting as their favourite i actually prefer this piece of artwork called '' Aristocrat ''.
Again this is another piece of artwork that features a sharp contrast between red and white. However i feel that image creates a more disturbing edge to it because of the cleanliness of the white which makes the blood stain and splashiness more prominent and realistic. what also adds to this horror theme is the realism on the characters face. I've noticed throughout Igor's digital paintings that the faces look uncanny like and so real that at first i mistook hi paintings to be digital edits of real people. i also really like the way hes painted the dress material and how it seems to start out as material flowing at the waist and gradually gets more liquefied as if its transforming into blood. Since i attend Wizards of the Coast events where Igor has been spotted attending i home to maybe meet him and be able to ask him about his work and gather information that currently i am unable to obtain.
