Weekly Reflections - Ident Mock Ups and Research

Since being given the task of creating idents for the live DCM project to grasp a better understanding on the use of visuals and positioning i have created my own mock up idents using stock images and abstracts from the internet. Although these images will see no final use i feel its a good opportunity to understand what my task is and how i will go about it.

what i learned from creating these images that even though you can only see portions of the images the positioning can totally change what impact the visuals have on the ident and what feelings and atmosphere they create.

Now knowing that this is an important and key feature to creating my idents i will take footage and images from multiple angles and directions. this will allow for great control over the range of angles  can use and i will able to see which is the best outcome for my work. To continue form this point on in my work i will select the themes and emotions i want my work to be based on and gather footage to further work with and experiment more with visuals.

To also further understand the difference and variations of idents between channels i watched and reviewed different idents looking at their key aspects and different themes and how they related to their partner channel. Such examples was the laughter found in the GOLD TV channel ident and the bug close ups on animal planet. these prevalent themes in idents make them seem more tied and fit together with their supporting channel and help promote what that channel is about. I have researched a broad range of idents and i feel more confident now in what i have to do to succeed in this project in creating an ident for DCM.
